Our Mission Is Missions
While ministering in the Caribbean for 23 years I constantly reminded our church of how important missions is. I said, “Remember, if it were not for missions, this church would not exist.” I guess that is also true for most churches.
This past Sunday in a bible class I did a quick review of the Book of Acts. And I was reminded of the expansion of New Testament churches throughout the known world. This was new and radical for most people. It was not religion, it was relationship with the true and living God. Just as the Word of God is a living entity so is the local church a living entity. And each in turn, must grow. We are to recreate the life of Christ in others, and they in turn, to others.
The seed must be planted. That’s our job. To bring it to life is God’s responsibility.
Back in the late 70’s I had the privilege of being part of the then OBBF. I attended as often as I could. During testimony and missionary report time I heard some men say they were discouraged while ‘trying to get things off the ground.’
But after returning to this area a few decades later I was delighted when I checked up on some of these “Missions.” Some are now much bigger than the mother churches that planted them.
Pastor, your church had a beginning. It was probably helped along by a mother church. We must never be satisfied with the status quo. We can never start enough churches. Sinners are everywhere. Let’s ask God for a vision of His vision.
